“Inception” marks my inaugural body of work crafted in a new country, reflecting on the memories I carry from my homeland, encompassing childhood, teenage years, and early adulthood. Conceived as a commemoration for my 40th birthday, I changed the functionality of the found archive boxes and used recycled materials. Adorning these boxes with astroturf, I repurposed and transformed them into a series of suitcases.
These suitcases embody a dual purpose; they become carriers of my memories and belongings. Interwoven with the thematic elements of dolls from my previous works, the series explores the intricate connection between my roots and the lands I hail from. It explores the ongoing interaction between me and the memories transported to my new home.
The astroturf, serving as a cover for the suitcases, functions as a symbolic layer. It resembles the green landscapes reminiscent of my past, evoking memories of different terrains, weather, and geography. Through this visual language, I utilize these tools to articulate my persona and convey the rich tapestry of experiences from my homeland. The series, therefore, becomes a visual and tactile expression of my journey, serving as a bridge between past and present, as well as a testament to the profound connection between self and memory.
